has exited author Bret Easton Ellis‘ directorial debut, Relapse, due to conflicts with his role in the upcoming Beatles movie, according to Ellis.
During a recent episode of his podcast, Ellis opened up about his upcoming movie. While Quinn was initially reported to star in the film months ago, the author said that after being offered the role of George Harrison in Sam Mendes‘ upcoming Beatles project, he had to leave Relapse.
“I think somewhere during that fall, we found out that our leading man Joseph Quinn, who had been dutifully waiting around to make this movie... finally was offered this role — I think I can say it now because it was announced — playing George Harrison in the Sam Mendes Beatles project,” said Ellis.
Ellis, who is known for writing the iconic novel American Psycho as well as The Rules of Attraction and The Informers is also set to write Relapse, which is said to be about a man who witnesses a death at a party and goes onto an existential crisis after entering rehab. Despite Quinn leaving the project, Ellis said he has no bad feelings about it and knows Quinn’s role in the Beatles film is a once-in-a-lifetime situation.
“And of course he should take that, of course he shouldn’t wait around anymore for Relapse,” Ellis said.
Mendes’ upcoming Beatles movie hasn’t officially confirmed its full cast just yet, but it has been heavily rumored that the main four stars will be Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Harry Dickinson as John Lennon.
