James Gunn reflects on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 by sharing set photos with the Ravagers. Gunn's return in the second installment of the Guardians films was a major success, with the sequel grossing more than $863 million worldwide. Overall, the movie received critical acclaim for its visuals, direction, soundtrack, and humor while ultimately procuring a nomination for Best Visual Effects at the 90th Academy Awards. Based on the film's success, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently shooting, with a scheduled release in May 2023.
The Ravagers play an important role in the Guardians franchise as an alien crime gang formed primarily of space pirates, mercenaries, and other accomplished bandits. With numerous factions spread across the galaxy, the Ravagers tend to follow their own code, including that they shall not steal from other Ravagers. Yondu Udonta, a Ravager banished by the syndicate group's leader Stakar Ogord for the crime of trafficking children, is also the adoptive father of the Guardians' own Peter Quill. The Ravagers entered in the first Guardians film, making return appearances in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Avengers: Endgame.
