It's been old news that was swept under the rug the moment it was resolved, but some might forget that James Gunn was fired as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Taking him out of the Guardians movie production would have been like taking the sugar out of Pixy Stix, at least Karen Gillan thought as much.
Gillan, who plays the franchise's anti-hero Nebula, recently opened up about what it was like for that period of time when Gunn was out of the picture. In essence, because Gunn was the maestro who helped bring such a little-known comic book series to astronomical heights — along with the actors whose careers took off because of Guardians of the Galaxy — not having him there would have been like having a family member removed from a get-together.

“I think everybody was so excited to be back together. The feeling was giddy excitement. The whole family was back together, and we truly do feel like a family. And it just wouldn’t have felt right without James [Gunn] back with us,” Gillan said to The Hollywood Reporter. “It just wouldn’t have been the same movie. So we were all extremely grateful that everything got straightened out, as it should have."
