James Gunn, the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy films, hints that the Ravagers could return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Based on the Marvel superheroes who have been around in the pages of Marvel comics since the 1970s, the first Guardians movie came out in August of 2014 as part of Phase Two of the MCU. Its sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, was released in May of 2017 as part of Phase Three. Both films were met with positive reviews.
In the films, the Ravagers are an intergalactic crime syndicate consisting of thieves, mercenaries, and bandits. They abducted Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) from Earth when he was a child at the bidding of his father, Ego the Living Planet (Kurt Russell). The most prominent Ravager in the films was Yondu Udonta, played by Michael Rooker. In the second movie, it was revealed that although the young Quill was supposed to be delivered to his father, Yondu refused to do it because he was aware of Ego's evil intentions. Yondu cared for the kid and chose to raise him as his own, ultimately sacrificing himself to save Quill's life.
