James Gunn has an update on filming schedules for both Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. After Gunn's first MCU film, Guardians of the Galaxy, became an undeniable hit in 2014, the director and writer also became highly in demand. Gunn is currently involved in multiple projects, working in two superhero universe—the MCU and DCEU. His work for the DCEU includes successes like The Suicide Squad and its follow-up HBO Max series, Peacemaker.
Inside the MCU, Gunn is busy working on both Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. With the entire surviving Guardians of the Galaxy cast returning, the team is filming both upcoming projects at the same time, and Gunn has shared that The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will reveal important information that leads into Vol. 3. Gunn has been open on social media about sharing updates on the two projects' progress and has now teased that the end of filming is coming near.

On Twitter, James Gunn gives a definitive update on how far along both of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy projects are. The GOTG director/writer shares in response to a fan's question that The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which is releasingon Disney+ this December, has wrapped filming and he expects the shooting for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to finish in about a week.
