In an age of successful movies based on video game characters like Mario, Sonic, and Nathan Drake, it was perhaps inevitable that we would get a Minecraft movie starring Jack Black as unassuming player-insert Steve. The actor confirmed the casting on Instagram in a suitably silly style; the film is targeting a 2025 release.
Little else is known about the project, like whether it will be live-action or CG, outside of a short description that reads: «The malevolent Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction, prompting a young girl and her group of unlikely adventurers to set out to save the Overworld.» Black will star opposite Jason Momoa, and Danielle Brooks and Sebastien Eugene Hansen have signed on to play characters named Dawn and Henry, respectively.

What do you think about the prospect of a Minecraft movie helmed by Jack Black and Jason Momoa? Would you feel more comfortable if Chris Pratt were to voice Steve, and do you think he was just too busy or something? Assemble an appropriate response in the comments section below.
Khayl Adam is the second best video game journalist Australia has ever produced, and his ambitions of world domination have (thus far) been curbed by the twin siren songs of strategy games and CRPGs. He has always felt an affinity for the noble dachshund, the best kind of dog.
