The It prequel series Welcome to Derry will welcome Taylour Paige (Zola), Jovan Adepo (Watchmen), Chris Chalk (Perry Mason), and James Remar (Oppenheimer) into its city limits Deadline reports. This is the first official adaptation of the It series that isn't based on any previous material. The project was announced last March with the series officially being ordered by HBO this past February.
At this point, it's not known who the aforementioned actors will play or if they will have any ties to established characters in the franchise. The series will begin in the 1960s in the time leading up to the events of It: Part One. Welcome to Derry is also said to go into the origins of Pennywise the Clown.
It: Part One and Two director Andy Muschietti, wife Barbara Muschietti, and Wonder Woman screenwriter Jason Fuchs are on board with Muschietti set to direct several episodes. Fuchs will also serve as co-showrunner for the series. Muschietti's movie adaptations amassed $1.17 billion worldwide.
Published in 1986, horror author Stephen King's massive novel was first adapted and turned into a mini-series in 1990, with Tim Curry portraying the role of the monstrous clown Pennywise. Bill Skarsgard took over the role for Muschietti's It movies, but won't be involved with this series.
