Spending too much money on streaming services? Amazon plans to add more than 100 Prime Video originals to its free, ad-supported Freevee platform.
The catch is that Amazon is only offering a taste of some of its originals; ideally, you'll get hooked and pay for Prime Video to finish out a season. But it's a good—albeit ad-infused—way to check out what Prime has to offer before handing over your credit card.
Freevee already has 50-plus Amazon-produced TV shows and movies, including Lizzo's Watch Out for the Big Grrrls, The Grand Tour, Savage X Fenty, Bosch, and Late Night. But starting May 26, viewers can stream the first three episodes of The Summer I Turned Pretty. Freevee will also post the first season of Reacher and The Wheel of Time—the latter of which makes its second season debut on Prime Video this year.
Also coming soon are the first three episodes of A League of Their Own, The Terminal List, and Paper Girls, as well as Goliath and The Tick, full seasons of Homecoming and Upload, and sci-fi flick The Vast of Night.
In 2022, rebranded its ad-supported IMDb TV as Amazon Freevee, which is now available on Fire TV, Fire tablets, and through the Prime Video app. It's also accessible via Android TV, Apple TV, Google TV, Roku, select smart TVs, gaming consoles, and mobile devices.
If you have a Fire TV device, meanwhile, Amazon plans to launch Fire TV Channels, which, according to Engadget(Opens in a new window), provide "premium, free content" on those gadgets at no extra cost, similar to the channels Google added recently to Google TV.
