iPhone 15 series is going to bring a massive upgrade over the current generation iPhone 14. In 2022, Apple focused all its upgrades on the iPhone 14 Pro and gave the standard models bare minimum changes, and a new Plus variant. In 2023 though, things are going to change. Apple is now rumoured to give some of the “Pro” goodness to the vanilla models. Photographers relying on their iPhones will be glad to see the arrival of a new 48MP camera sensor.
Based on a new report from Jeff Pu of Haitong Intl Tech Research, Apple is going to give the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus a 48MP main rear camera. This will be a 3-stacked sensor that should allow for better digital zoom function on these phones, similar to the 2x magnification on the iPhone 14 Pro. This will allow the standard iPhone to get some kind of lossless zooming for the first time.
However, the iPhone 15 Pro models will get the higher zooming functionality with their dedicated telephoto cameras. Rumours suggest the iPhone 15 Pro and Phone 15 Pro Max could retain the 3X telephoto camera from the Pro models. The iPhone 15 Pro Max though, will get an additional 6x telephoto camera with a periscope lens arrangement.
Additionally, it is also said that the standard models won't get the LiDAR sensors. The new iPhone 15 Pro variants should also get the new 3nm Apple A17 chipsets and get 8GB RAM as standard. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are expected to get the current A16 Bionic chips from the iPhone 14 Pro, which are based on the 4nm platform.
The iPhone 15 series is also expected to get the USB-C treatment but Apple may reserve the faster USB-C 3.2 for the Pro variants of the iPhone 15 series. The Pro variants are also expected to get a new Titanium frame with virtual buttons
