has just broken another significant box office record. The Disney/Pixar sequel has become the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, surpassing Disney Animation Studios’ Frozen II.
Joy reigns supreme as the Pixar follow-up not only became the best-selling 2024 feature thus far — even surpassing Dune: Part Two‘s $12 million box office earnings — but also the highest-grossing film ever, breaking Frozen II’s impressive record with its $1,462.8 million box office revenue through Tuesday.
While Inside Out 2 has yet to hit Japanese theaters on August 1, the animated movie now ranks at no. 20 on the overseas chart with its international box office total of $861.8 million. Apart from winning the box office, the sequel has also won the hearts of critics and audiences alike, with a current 91% critic score and 96% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Directed by Kelsey Mann, the official synopsis for Inside Out 2 reads: “Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone.”
