New Scrap Mechanic - What's New with Engineering in The War Within
The War Within introduces interesting new mechanics to both Crafting and Gathering Professions. While players expect Profession updates each time a new expansion launches, The War Within is bringing an unusual number of changes that can alter how the flow of a Profession works, or make the Crafting or Gathering process more difficult than it has been in the past.
We're taking a look at what's new and different with each Profession — this time, with a look at Engineering! What's New with Engineering?
Engineering has always had a reputation as being a «wacky» Profession, with interesting mechanics and odd crafts, and Khaz Algar Engineering is no different. While players will still have the fun tinkers, crazy bombs, and interesting contraptions to craft, the method for obtaining those crafts is vastly different than ever before — namely, it's mostly random.
Engineers focus on a new Scrap mechanic to find and study Schematics. These Schematics, when earned, will randomly teach you one of three available unlearned Recipes based off your Specializations and the Profession's overall pool. The process has several steps involved:
- Obtain Scrap — Engineers will need plenty of Pile of Rusted Scrap for this process — thankfully, you can find it throughout Khaz Algar.
- Gain Prototypes — With the Scrap you have collected, players will need to Scour Through Scrap to obtain Prototypes. These Prototypes can either grant you a lower-level recipe on use, or can be used to learn higher-level recipes.
- Collect Notes — To obtain the higher-end recipes, you will need to disassemble Prototypes using Disassemble Invention. This will reward you with Hastily Scrawled Notes.
