The Kirin 9000S ushered a new gateway that enabled Huawei to break free of the companies under the influence of the U.S., but the chipset powering the Mate 60 series relied on slower TaiShan cores that would perform poorly in single-core and multi-core workloads. Fortunately, the company is rumored to have made incredible progress, not just with its joint alliance with foundry partner SMIC to start 5nm wafer production but also in making power-efficient TaiShan cores that are significantly more capable than Cortex-A510. A rumor posted by @jasonwill101 on X claims that Huawei is working on improved power-efficient TaiShan cores, which will behave similarly to Apple’s low-energy cores. There is no information as to which platform these cores are designed for, but given that the company is laser-focused on improving power consumption, it is likely that these will cater to a mobile device. The first set of performance numbers claims that in Geekbench 5, the single-core score of the new TaiShan cores is 350, making it significantly higher than what the Kirin 9000S’ Cortex-A510 can achieve.
If you are wondering, the Cortex-A510 obtains 200 points in the same test, showing that the new TaiShan cores are 175 percent faster.
