After the conclusion of The Real World Homecoming: New Orleans, there has been no announcement about any future Real World content, but Paramount+ should seriously consider a total series reboot. The Real World premiered in 1992 on MTV, which featured "the true story of seven strangers, picked to live in a loft and have their lives taped, to find out what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real." The Bunim/Murray Productions franchise turned into a cultural phenomenon, catapulting the reality TV genre to the forefront of the television landscape at the turn of the century, spawning numerous spin-offs such as its rival show Road Rules and a competition show where those alums continue to compete against each other on what is today called The Challenge. The Real World has aired 32 seasons on MTV, while season 33 streamed on Facebook Watch in 2019 to lackluster fanfare.
In summer 2020, Road Rules season 1 alum Mark Long started a Twitter campaign for We Want OGs that led to the new series called The Challenge: All Stars, catering to the nation's nostalgia for the 90s and the franchise's original stars. Not long after, production for The Real World Homecoming: New York began and premiered on Paramount+ in March 2021, which reunited the titular seven strangers. Since then, the Los Angeles and New Orleans casts have returned to their respective cities to rehash old wounds, heal, and create new upheavals. The success of Homecoming and The Challenge: All Stars has even generated the creation of a new Challenge show without any affiliation with the original series, pitting cast members from Survivor, Big Brother, Love Island, and The Amazing Race against each other on The Challenge: USA, premiering July 6th.
