A new behind-the-scenes photo from My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 shows the return of original cast members. Written by Nia Vardalos,My Big Fat Greek Wedding was released in 2002 and quickly became a cult classic. The independent romantic comedy took the box office by storm after its debut and put Vardalos' career on the map after she earned a nomination for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for the film.
Directed by Joel Zwick,My Big Fat Greek Wedding centers on the household chaos, wedding planning, and cultural differences that ensue after Toula Portokalos (Vardalos) falls in love with non-Greek Ian Miller (John Corbett). Co-starring the late Michael Constantine as Toula's father and Lainie Kazan as Toula's mother, My Big Fat Greek Wedding was so successful that the film generated a short-lived TV sequel series and the 2016 sequel film My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. The sequel introduced Toula and Ian's daughter, Paris (Elena Kampouris). In 2021, Vardalos revealed that a third installment for the Portakalos family was in the works.
