Moon Knight star Oscar Isaac reveals that the upcoming Marvel series doesn't focus on its MCU connections, which was ultimately what drew him to the project. Marvel’s latest addition to their Disney+ series line-up arrives next week and looks set to be the studio's darkest release yet. Isaac stars as both Marc Spector and Steven Grant, who suffers from dissociative identity disorder. After making a deal with an Egyptian god named Khonshu, the former CIA agent is granted the ability to transform into the super-powered vigilante, Moon Knight.
The series also stars Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow and May Calamawy as Layla El-Faouly, with both stars also making their MCU debut alongside Isaac. The six-episode series has so far been shrouded in mystery, but as its release draws closer, a number of teasers have been released which have offered small glimpses at the sort of tone that audiences can expect from Moon Knight. Each of Marvel’s Disney+ series directly tie into the events that occur within its theatrical releases, however Moon Knight is set to tell Marc Spector’s story as its own standalone piece, with fewer obvious ties to the MCU. Now, Isaac has opened about how this slight disconnect was actually what initially drew him to the role.

In conversation with IGN recently, Isaac discussed Moon Knight’s place within the MCU and how it “rests on its own terms” when it comes to its wider connections. Stating that while Moon Knight takes place within the MCU, its connection to it is "not part of the story.” The star opened up about how the series is more of “an internal exploration” and that Marc/Steven is disconnected from “any of his reality that is happening,”
