Developer Guerrilla Games reveals how Horizon Forbidden West’s Burning Shores DLC takes advantage of the hardware inside the PS5. Horizon Forbidden West was released as a cross-generation title, but the PS5 version offered some massive improvements over its PS4 counterpart. As an example, it allowed gamers to play Horizon Forbidden West at 60 FPS, with support for a higher resolution as well as a 40Hz mode.

According to Game Director Mathijs de Jonge, Burning Shores being only available on PS5 will allow the studio to create a “stunning post-post-apocalyptic version of Los Angeles.” He then describes the ruins of LA as highly detailed, stating that they require a ton of processing power in addition to fast streaming technology. He makes a specific note of being able to fly and seeing a lot of the world at the same time, an ability players unlock near the end of Horizon Forbidden West.
