Back when Horizon Forbidden West's Burning Shores DLC was announced, eyebrows were raised over the fact that it would only be available for PS5 owners, stopping short Aloy's journey for anyone that played the original game on PS4. That might suck for anyone that doesn't have a PS5 just yet, but game director Mathijs de Jonge has outlined exactly what the console's beefier specs have helped with in the DLC.
Speaking with PlayStation.Blog (thanks GamesRadar), de Jonge explains that development on the original game was tricky as everything that was added needed to be optimized for PS4 at the same time. Now that the team isn't being held back by the PS4, de Jonge explains that the team has "been able to charge forward" and that the world will be a lot more detailed as Guerrilla has managed to "squeeze a lot of activity in there" thanks to the PS5's improved processing power.

More interestingly, de Jonge also seems to drop a little hint at what must be a pretty climactic fight in Burning Shores that wouldn't have been possible to make on last-gen hardware due to it requiring "a LOT of memory and processing power". He also describes this fight as a "grand vision" for Guerrilla but doesn't go into further detail, leaving us only with our imagination to picture what Aloy might be throwing down against in the DLC.
Of course, we don't actually know what she'll be fighting, but we saw a potential candidate in the DLC's announcement trailer. The trailer was primarily focused on giving us a look at the Burning Shores, though the final few seconds showed a massive Metal Devil rising from the ground, which could potentially be the fight that de Jonge is alluding to.
