Helldivers 2 has turned out to be a runaway success for Sony and Arrowhead Game Studios, having attracted an increasingly larger playerbase in the days since its launch. On PC in particular, the co-op third-person shooter has found a sizeable audience, even becoming Sony’s biggest launch on the platform to date.
On Sunday, in fact, the game hit another major milestone on Steam. As per SteamDB, Helldivers 2’s new peak concurrent user count on the platform now stands at an impressive 155,926 players, which is more than double the all-time peak concurrent Steam user count of Sony’s second-biggest game on the platform, God of War (which peaked at concurrent 73,529 players). At the time of writing, Helldivers 2 is being played by over 135,000 players on Steam.
Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt recently revealed that the co-op shooter is “blowing through” internal sales estimates, having sold around a million copies already. The studio plans on releasing plenty of free post-launch content in the form of new biomes, enemies, objectives, story updates, and more.
Helldivers 2 is available on PS5 and PC. Our review of the game will be going live soon, so stay tuned.
