It is little surprise that its 3DS remaster sold extremely well, although the fact that only the original has been ported to newer consoles since can feel somewhat disappointing. On the other hand, this also means that a new remake would have less direct competition, making it an interesting candidate for a future game.
A game which actually features Zelda as the protagonist has been a popular topic of discussion for many years, and offers a unique chance to explore this concept. More specifically, during ’s seven-year timeskip, Princess Zelda disguises herself as Sheik, posing as a male member of the Sheikah in order to evade Ganondorf. Not much is known about the time period that Link spends trapped in the Sacred Realm, meaning a game that explores what Sheik did during would provide an interesting new angle to examining the classic game from.
An remake that either focuses entirely on Sheik, or includes extended sections from the disguised princess’ point of view, would help the game to immediately stand out from prior versions. If handled correctly, such sequences could easily become a highlight of a new game. Of course, if integrated into the original story, this would expose Sheik’s true identity long before Link discovers it. That being said, a 25-year-old twist would hardly have the same impact today, and may not even be much of a surprise in any case.
