We now officially know Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail developer HoYoverse’s upcoming urban gacha Zenless Zone Zero is coming to PS5, but the title’s third – and, presumably, final – closed beta test will not be available on Sony’s system. Announced earlier today, sign-ups for the sampler are available for PC and mobile through here.
Urban gacha officially announced for Sony's system
HoYoverse says this updated test will include crucial enhancements compared to its previous iterations, with improved combat and exploration systems promising a better “flow and pacing”. The press release adds: “It will also showcase a new character, a new faction, brand-new Bangboo mechanics, the combat challenge Shiyu Defense, and more.”
One feature HoYoverse is touting in the press materials is an upgraded HDD, or Hollow Deep Dive system. “Thanks to the latest upgrade of the HDD System, players will be able to explore the Hollows in a more efficient manner using the TV Wall (aka the Hollow Board), which has been optimised to a considerable extent,” the materials read.
The flow of the action is something players criticised heavily in previous versions, so it sounds like HoYoverse has been paying attention to this feedback. The press release adds: “After several iterations, combat design is now more dynamic, maximizing excitement for both newcomers and hardcore players.”
But there’s no word on when – or, indeed, if – PS5 owners will ever get in on the beta action. It’ll be interesting to see if the console version launches day-and-date with its PC and mobile counterparts, or if we’ll need to wait a few months for the port, as was the case with Honkai: Star Rail previously.
