Hearthstone just revealed some amazing plans for the Year of the Pegasus, including a refresh to the Core set and the Whizbang’s Workshop expansion. Though the first card set of this Hearthstone year releases on March 19, players can log in now and experience a part of the whimsy right away.
2024 is a big year for Hearthstone, as the collectible card game is entering its 10th year of live service. To celebrate, Hearthstone is entering the Year of the Pegasus – a fitting name, as Blizzard used “Project Pegasus” in early development – in a big way, with celebratory events and gifts, a Core set refresh, and three new expansions throughout the year.
Recently, Hearthstone revealed the first of these new expansions. Titled Whizbang’s Workshop, this 145-card set stars Whizbang, the master toymaker, in a set bursting with the whimsy Hearthstone is known for. The expansion features the new Miniaturize keyword, which adds a one-cost 1/1 copy of the minion when it is played, along with iconic characters, mechanics, and references to some of Hearthstone’s most iconic cards. Whizbang’s Workshop releases March 19, with a standard and Mega Bundle available for pre-purchase now.
A new Hearthstone year also means a new Core set. To celebrate the game’s 10-year anniversary, Hearthstone’s new Core set features the return of some classic cards, including Leeroy Jenkins, Fiery War Axe, and Justicar Trueheart. The Wrath of Air Totem, originally removed from the Shaman’s Hero Power a few years ago, is even returning to the rotation this year to truly capture the feeling of classic Hearthstone. Additionally, the Elusive keyword has been added to the game, though its ability to make minions unable to be targeted by spells or Hero Powers is something players will be familiar with from cards like Evasive Wyrm.
The new Core set will also include four brand-new cards inspired by Warcraft Rumble. Fans of the new Blizzard mobile game will recognize Gnomelia, S.A.F.E. Pilot, Warsong Grunt, Night Elf
