On top of its well-reported disappointment factor, Hawkeye's post-credits scene ignored what would have been the perfect cameo by an original Avenger. Hawkeye ends with a bang, including plenty of twists and turns, emotional beats, fight scenes, the moving on of several different characters, and even a musical. The show packs a lot in, including, of course, the eye-catching return of Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin, but even with the high-points there’s still something a little amiss with Hawkeye’s ending.
The six episodes follow Clint Barton, one year after the events of Avengers: Endgame, where his past as Ronin catches up to him. He crosses paths with Hawkeye fan Kate Bishop, who he once saved back in the battle of New York. She becomes his protégé as he helps train her to take up the role of his mantle, although her name remains undecided. Hawkeye explores much of the context of the Ronin character, such as his involvement in the underground world, but also what it means to be an Avenger in a way that changes the superhero experience in the MCU. Building on the perception of superheroes, throughout the series there are also snippets of Rogers: The Musical, a production dedicated to the life of Steve Rogers as Captain America.

The mid-credits scene of Hawkeye features Rogers: The Musical and the song «Save the City» which recounts the battle of New York in The Avengers. But while it was fun, Marvel missed an even better Captain America link in the Hawkeye post-credit sequence by not bringing in Chris Evans' Steve Rogers himself for a comical reaction to the musical about his life.
