The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special set photos tease an Earth-based action scene. After plans for the franchise got delayed due to James Gunn's firing and subsequent rehiring, the Guardians of the Galaxy are set to play a big role in MCU Phase 4. Instead of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 kicking off the new phase, their first appearance after Avengers: Endgame comes in Thor: Love and Thunder. Another team-up with Chris Hemsworth's Thor is highly anticipated, but so too is the return to their solo-adventures. While the threequel is set to release in May 2023, audiences won't have to wait that long to see Star-Lord and Co. reunite.
It was previously announced that Marvel Studios and Gunn were developing The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special for Disney+. The special is set between the events of Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but details have otherwise been kept under wraps. Gunn is working on the Holiday Special and threequel at the same time, as he is filming both MCU creations as part of the same production. With The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special set for a December 2022 release date, fans have been growing increasingly anxious to know more about what it might contain.
