The Golden Girls gets a Jetsons-like twist in a surprise animated episode from BoJack Horseman director Mike Hollingsworth. The Golden Girls aired from 1985-1992, and starred Betty White, Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty as four older women living together in Miami. Often considered one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time, the series won numerous awards during its run and sparked a continuation series and two spinoffs. However, The Golden Girls always remained the most successful of the bunch.
In fact, The Golden Girls remains popular to this day. Its legacy has lived on well beyond the show itself, perhaps in part because of how it further cemented the acting career of White, who sadly passed away in December. In a surprise showing of how the series lives on, The Golden Girls will receive its own pop-up restaurant this month in Beverly Hills. On top of that, Hollingsworth has found a creative way to reinvent the beloved sitcom.

Hollingsworth has made The Golden Girls animated and futuristic all at once with a new pilot. The episode is titled “Golden Girls 3033,” according to a preview posted by IndieWire. In the pilot, the four main women, now animated, are still sharing a home 100 years in the future. Except now, their house is populated by high-tech gadgets that look straight out of The Jetsons, including a freezer/fridge that can deliver delights such as a “Dateless Dessert for One” or a “Lonely Lady Lasagna” at the push of a button. Plus, The Golden Girls’ Stan is now an incoherent alien. The episode creatively combines original audio from The Golden Girls with new animation. Check out the clip below:
