This, in addition to the added feature of cooking in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and even an Animal Crossing-themed ice cream flavor at Cold Stone Creamery, has led to a strong association between Animal Crossing and cute-looking food.
Fictional food, especially ones from video games and animations, has a habit of looking especially mouth-watering to viewers. Because of this, when a gamer is able to bring the decadent snacks to life, it's usually met with plenty of enthusiasm from hungry fans. There has been a rise in fictional food recipes within the past couple of years, including YouTube channels such as Binging with Babish, books full of recipes based on games and anime like Final Fantasy XV and One Piece, and threads and posts on sites like Twitter and Reddit.

Animal Crossing fan and chef elven_sprout baked a trio of tasty-looking fruity desserts based on the cupcakes found in Animal Crossing. Using a vegan vanilla cake recipe (shared in the thread of the original post) and topping them with frosting and pieces of fresh fruit, they look just like the in-game cupcakes. Elven_sprout makes vegan versions of food seen in a variety of video games, such as the calamari from Stardew Valley, Seafood Fried Rice from Breath of the Wild, and the Hearty Ramen from Animal Crossing.
