Three years on from its release, Ghostrunner is getting a sequel. Ghostrunner 2 was just unveiled at PlayStation's State of Play, along with the reveal that it will be launching later this year.
Despite being shown off at the Sony-run showcase, Ghostrunner 2 won't be a PlayStation 5 exclusive. No, much like the first game in the series, it will be multiplatform. However, it will be current-gen exclusive, launching on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam - skipping PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.

While the trailer has given us a good look at the freshly revealed sequel, publisher 505 Games has elaborated on what we should expect from Ghostrunner 2.
"Set one year after the critically acclaimed sci-fi smash, Ghostrunner 2 sees cyber ninja protagonist Jack emerging from the deathtrap of Dharma Tower for the first time to explore the sprawling wasteland beyond," says 505 Games. "Featuring intense fast-paced-push-forward combat, and deeply challenging gameplay, the sequel promises to up the ante from the original in every conceivable way."
As part of this, 505 says Ghostrunner 2 will include vehicular combat, and allow Jack to ride around on a new motorcycle. Aside from that - and some new upgrades and powers that the publisher is hinting at - we're also told it will feature "an expanded narrative, deeper world-building, and devilish new enemies." The game is described as "the ultimate power fantasy", although we'll have to wait and see if that's the case when we get our hands on it ourselves.
While 505 says this will be a 2023 release, we don't actually have a window any narrower than that. With that in mind, we can assume it will be with us towards the end of the year, since
