Naughty Dog has been talking about its standalone multiplayer The Last of Us game for a while now, but so far, all we’ve seen of it is a couple of pieces of concept art. The developer said earlier in the year that more details on the title would be shared later in 2023, and increasingly, the expectation became that the game would be formally unveiled at the recent PlayStation Showcase. That that didn’t happen took many by surprise.
In light of that, Naughty Dog has shared a message on Twitter to update fans on the game’s development, stating that it decided the project needs “more time” before it can be revealed.
“We know many of you have been looking forward to hearing more about our The Last of Us multiplayer game,” the studio writes. “We’re incredibly proud of the job our studio has done thus far, but as development as continued, we’ve realized what is best for the game is to give it more time.”
Naughty Dog states work is continuing on the multiplayer projects as well as “other games”, which includes “a brand new single player experience”- which was confirmed to be Neil Druckmann’s next project last year. According to the studio, details on these projects will be shared “soon”.
“Our team will continue to work on the project, as well as our other games in development, including a brand new single player experience,” the developer writes. “We look forward to sharing more soon.”
Recent reports have claimed that a number of unannounced first party PlayStation Studio titles are ready to be shown off, but for some reason got held back from the recent PlayStation Showcase. Read more on that through here.
