The sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife has added more big names to its cast. According to Deadline, Kumail Nanjiani, who recently appeared in the Star Wars show Andor and Marvel movie The Eternals, is joining the cast alongside veteran live-action and voice actor Patton Oswalt. Among other roles, Oswalt is known for voicing Remy in the Pixar movie Ratatouille.
Also joining the cast of the spooky sequel is comedian James Acaster (who has strong opinions about apricots and Dr. Depper) and Emily Alyn Lind, who starred on the new version of Gossip Girl at HBO Max.
The Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel will be directed by Gil Kenan, who wrote the 2021 film. Stars Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon are coming back to reprise their roles in the follow-up.
Released during the pandemic and also starring Stranger Things actor Finn Wolfhard, Afterlife made more than $200 million at the box office. The sequel is slated to release in theaters this December.
The stars of the original '80s movies, including Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, and Aykroyd, appeared in Afterlife, too. It was just the latest effort to revitalize the Ghostbusters series, following 2016's Ghostbusters movie that starred Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Kristen Wiig, and Chris Hemsworth.
On the video game front, an action game called Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed was released in October 2022. A VR game called Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord is in development now.
