It has been a long road for Johnny Blaze, the Ghost Rider, but that road may finally be coming to an end. As Johnny struggles to control the Spirit of Vengeance, as well as another entity lurking in his body and mind, a preview shows him preparing to embark on the ride of his life.
Johnny Blaze has been the Ghost Rider since selling his soul to Mephisto back in Marvel Spotlight #5, written by Gary Friedrich with art by Mike Ploog, and since then he has become one of Marvel's most recognizable antiheroes, punishing sinners in service of Hell even while maintaining a commitment to protecting the innocent. The entire time, Johnny Blaze's battle for vengeance has resulted in a concomitant battle for his soul, with the Spirit of Vengeance's mission and Johnny Blaze's desire for justice coming into conflict as often as not. These attributes lend to Ghost Rider's staying power as a popular, and complex, Marvel superhero.

However, an upcoming preview for Ghost Rider Vol. 10 #5, written by Benjamin Percy, art by Cory Smith and Oren Junior, colored by Bryan Valenza, signals what Johnny himself refers to as a potential "end of the road." The preview pages for the story, entitled «Hell's Backbone,» show a Johnny Blaze remorseful of his past, in pain at the ongoing conflict within him, worn out from the road and barely in communication with the Spirit of Vengeance. All he has been given is a message—«Ride or Die»—and a destination: the Hell's Backbone Rally, described by Johnny as "not only one of the most dangerous drives in the country...[but] also [...] rumored to be a vortex, a place where the veil between the worlds
