Oscar winner Charlize Theron has finally addressed the recent theatrical release of George Miller’s Anya Taylor-Joy-led prequel. In Mad Max: Fury Road, Theron originally portrayed the older version of Imperator Furiosa.
During its theatrical run, the film failed to meet its box office expectations. It only earned a worldwide gross of over $170 million against a reported budget of around $168 million. Despite this, the film remains Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with a Tomatometer rating of 90%.
During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Theron confirmed that she already had the chance to watch Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. However, when asked if she and Taylor-Joy were able to discuss the movie, Theron admitted that they haven’t really found the right time to meet.
“It’s amazing, it’s a beautiful film,” Theron explained. “No, we’ve really been trying to connect. It’s been one of those — we can actually make a comedy out of it. We keep running into each other and in places when we don’t have time to really talk to each other, so we’re constantly like, ‘Oh my god, OK, let’s get together!’ And then life takes over. But it will happen when it’s right.”
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga was directed by franchise creator George Miller from a script he co-wrote with Nico Lathouris. The film also starred Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Alyla Browne, Nathan Jones, Angus Sampson, Quaden Bayles, Daniel Webber, and Lachy Hulme. It was produced by Miller and Doug Mitchell.
