The launch of Fortnite OG is a hit, resulting in a new all-time player peak. According to tracking sites, 3,913,817 players logged on to see Fortnite OG as soon as it dropped earlier today - the highest player count the game has ever had.
This comes as Fortnite takes it back to basics, giving us the same experience that we had back in 2018. It seems like a whole lot of us have nostalgia for this point in time, as it's spurred way more players than usual to log on.
This exact figure of 3,913,817 comes courtesy of Fortnite.gg, which reports a staggering 521,255 percent player increase as soon as Chapter 4 Season OG went live. It also estimates that Fortnite generated between $58,000 and $215,000 this morning, so definitely a success for Epic Games - and all it had to do was dig up some older content.
Of course, this is before most of us have even had the chance to play since Fortnite OG has only just gone live. We can expect this figure to be maintained as more players get off work and are able to play properly. It may even rise over the weekend, with even more fans able to play.
Don't get too attached - Fortnite OG is a limited-time event. It will run for about a month, ending on December 2. Due to this, its battle pass is only 50 levels long.
With all that being said, we can expect Epic to start banking on our nostalgia for the good old days of 2018 even further. In this instance, it seems to have been even more successful than introducing completely new content. We'll have to wait and see if this is sustainable, though, and isn't just bringing in some players to take a peek at the new/old gimmicks, and then peace out once more.
