Epic Games is dropping Fortnite’s new Coachella skins ahead of the music festival, adding beloved artists and matching accessories to the battle royale. Epic has seemingly mastered well-timed collaborations, consistently blending Fortnite with some of the most well-known brands in the world. From Fortnite adding Marvel-themed cosmetics ahead of massive movie releases, to bringing Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty as an NPC in the game, the battle royale is filled with characters from alternative mediums. Horizon Forbidden West’s Alloy, The Walking Dead’s Rick Grimes, and Dr. Strange from the MCU are just a few of the skins Fortnite players can don. It has even been suggested that Fortnite has a crossover problem, having collaborated with too many different brands over the years.
Ultimately, Fortnite’s collaborations are a marketing strategy, not only bringing new fans into the battle royale but also creating interactive advertisements within the game. Allowing players to play as characters from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla or Moon Knight ahead of the show’s premiere is a way of promoting other properties within Fortnite, while simultaneously bringing fans of those other IPs to Epic’s shooter. The crossovers seem to work, too, especially since the battle royale has gotten its hands on some of the biggest brands in the world. Some leaks even suggest that Fortnite could get Star Wars skins such as Darth Vader in the future.
