David Polfeldt, the former head of Ubisoft Massive, has chosen to depart the company after a six month sabbatical.
The veteran developer stepped down as managing director of Ubisoft Massive in June 2021 with a view to returning in a new role after a break.
As reported by Hit Points (via VGC), however, Polfeldt will now be leaving Ubisoft outright after working his notice period.
Outlining the decision, Polfeldt told Hit Points that Ubisoft Massive has outgrown his managerial style, and that someone who's used to wrangling larger teams might be a better fit.
"I think my philosophy and my skills work well for a certain kind of group of a certain kind of size, I don't think I'm the right manager for what the studio has become," he commented. "I'm perfectly at peace with it."
Ubisoft Massive is currently working on Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and an unnamed Star Wars project. The Montreal studio has previously developed titles including The Division and Far Cry 3.
Moving forward, Polfeldt intends to go "wherever the wind takes me."
