An upcoming For Honor update will significantly change how 8 of its weapon-wielding fighters will play. Announced during the latest Warrior’s Den livestream – where Ubisoft Montreal also outlined For Honor Year 7 Season 3 – fans were shocked when the team revealed that the Reflex Guard mechanic is being removed entirely.
But what is For Honor’s Reflex Guard and why does its removal matter to players? Since the game launched in 2017, it has categorised heroes into different classes based on their combat styles. These combat classes include the well-balanced Vanguard, the beefed up Heavy, the technical Hybrid, and the deadly Assassin.
Assassins have traditionally been the toughest class of hero to play thanks to their unique Reflex Guard trait. In a nutshell, when choosing a stance (top, left, or right) your ability to block attacks from that direction would only last for a very short window whereas other classes maintain their block. As a result, Assassins put up a weaker defence that – when matched with their typically smaller health bars – make them a tough pick as you rapidly toggle stances. Unless you happen to be a For Honor pro (or playing with a mouse and keyboard) it almost feels like you’re at a massive disadvantage.
This For Honor update arrives on September 14, 2023, and will impact the following heroes:
Ubisoft also shared details on the game’s next season. For Honor Year 7 Season 3 “Deceit” is centred on an event known as the Ghost Festival. There’s a clash of supernatural themes at work with the Wu Lin faction taking centre stage. Expect new battle and event passes to complete as you play, showering warriors with all kinds of in-game bonuses and cosmetic unlocks for characters.
