The very first The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered comparison video has surfaced, comparing the visuals and performance of the new remaster to those of the original PS4 game.
Naughty Dog's highly-anticipated remaster for PS5 is out later this week, and reviews are starting to drop as we speak. Courtesy of YouTuber 'ElAnalistaDebits', we now have a video highlighting the visual differences compared to the 2020 version running on PS4, and PS4 Pro.
On PlayStation 4, the original game runs in 1080p at 30FPS, while the PS4 Pro version runs the game in 1440p (albeit still at 30fps). The Remastered PS5 version runs in 4K resolution at 30FPS in Quality mode (30~50fps with VRR). In the game's performance mode on PS5, players can expect 1440 resolution at 60FPS ((60~90fps with VRR). As mentioned by 'ElAnalistaDebits', although loading times are still somewhat slow on PS5, the Remastered version benefits from increased resolution, Variable Refresh Rate, higher quality vegetation, shadows, increased drawing distance, or anisotropic filtering.
As for the game's performance on PlayStation 5, this is on par with last year's The Last of Us Part 1 remaster for PS5 with 90fps in performance mode and an average of about 70fps with VRR enabled. In Quality mode, the FPS averages 40fps with VRR. Going by this first comparison, the most notable new additions are the all-new roguelike "No Return" mode as well as VRR. "Visual differences compared to the original version in backward compatibility mode on PS5 at 1440p/60fps are anecdotal", the YouTuber writes.
You can check out the comparison video below. We've also included gameplay of the new Lost Levels included with The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered on PS5.
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered launches later this week on January 19 for PS5. Those who own the game on PS4 can upgrade to the new Remastered version for $10.
