Over the weekend, Electronic Arts premiered what it says is the final gameplay trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor ahead of its launch later this month. It sees Cal doing some great lightsaber swinging and Force slinging, but also the hero returning to Coruscant after all these years.
Coruscant, once home to the Jedi temple, has since been converted into an Imperial stronghold. Cal’s return to this place, where he saw the Jedi get wiped out first-hand, seems like it could be an emotional moment.
We don’t just see it, either. It looks like we’ll have some work to do on Coruscant, though it’s not quite as open-ended as some have speculated. EA clarified over the weekend that Coruscant is not a “freely explorable open world,” only that it’s one of the destinations in-game.
With that said, this new footage looks pretty rad. There’s a moment in this trailer I love, where Cal is tussling with a Stormtrooper on hoverbikes. He shoves him off, and then Force-lifts him up into the air, right into an oncoming TIE Fighter’s windshield. Fantastic. All of this, from the clever Force use to the tiny detail of Cal clicking off his lightsaber blade in the struggle, makes Star Wars Jedi: Survivor look pretty interesting to me.
It feels like we haven’t seen too much of Respawn’s follow-up to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but that’s also a pretty good thing. I’m curious to see how old friends work back into the story alongside these new faces, as well as Cal’s new goals in finding a safe home for the Jedi. Also, considering how many Jedi are running around nowadays, you’d think he’d run into a few others on his travels.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor launches on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC on April 28.
