Final Fantasy XVI flies in the face of RPG trends to a certain degree. While it seems most AAA RPGs are going the open-world route these days, Final Fantasy XVI is more of a linear, story-driven experience. You play through a set series of missions with several time jumps pushing the narrative forward. So, this raises a question – is there content in FF16 you can miss out on? Missions, story moments, collectibles, ect? Scroll down for the answer…
Warning: This article contains information about some later parts of Final Fantasy XVI. No specific story info is revealed, but some details about the structure of the game are revealed.
So, are there things you can miss out on in Final Fantasy XVI? The answer is yes, but don’t worry, most of it isn’t that important.
Around half-way through the FF16 campaign, after completing “The Crystal’s Curse” mission, there’s a time skip and a fairly major shakeup in the narrative I won’t get into. As a result of this, all the sidequests from the early part of the game will no longer be available. So, if you want to play through all those missions, clean them up before you head to Drake’s Head for The Crystal’s Curse mission.
The good news is, while these early sidequests can be missed, all the rest of the sidequests from the latter parts of the game aren't missable. Even after you finish the game, you can go back and complete them. Crafting materials and other items also can’t be missed, as you can revisit early missions and levels by accessing the Arte Stone in Cid’s Hideaway and choosing the Stage Replay option.
Of course, Final Fantasy XVI also offers a New Game+ so you can restart the game from the beginning and catch up on any quests you may have missed out on the first time around.
