Final Fantasy XIV is experiencing a series of DDoS attacks again, with not much known about what is going on just yet.
The FF14 team updated on The Lodestone that they're experiencing widespread technical difficulty is due to a DDoS attacks that could affect the ability to log in, disconnections if you’re somehow able to log in, and otherwise doing, well, anything in the game.
Players may be experiencing the following issues:
·Disconnected from JP/NA/EU/OC data center Worlds
·Difficulty logging in to JP/NA/EU/OC data center Worlds
·Difficulty accessing, sending, and receiving data from JP/NA/EU/OC data centers
The team had already scheduled some maintenance today. The news about the ongoing malicious attacks came in the morning, whereas the officially scheduled downtime was only supposed to begin at 6:00 p.m. Pacific tonight. Services have been affected all day and so far there has only been that one official update from the morning. As we’re getting closer to the original maintenance time, we’ll have to see if the team can resolve this with the maintenance itself, or otherwise update the community on the issues.
This is not the first time that Final Fantasy XIV has been targeted by DDoS attacks. There was a significant one back in 2022 that affected the North American Data Center. A previous attack also happened back in 2019. Those were not the only instances, but back in 2022, things were restored after not too much time. Given that there have been no updates since this morning, we’ll see if one comes after maintenance.
In the meantime, the community is meme-ing, naturally.
