A new Final Fantasy VII Rebirth patch has gone live today, introducing graphics improvements and bug fixes. Unfortunately, the patch fails to address the game's most critical visual issues.
Patch 1.020 brings fixes for typos and omissions, a Red XIII combat bug for the Lunatic High and Watcher's Spirit abilities, a progress bug, and more. The patch also improves frame rate and overall game stability, visuals and adds Sharp and Soft options to Performance Mode display settings.
Unfortunately, the two new Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Performance Mode settings do little to address the visual issues of the display modes. As highlighted in a short comparison video by fallb0rn, the two options don't look too different, as the game still looks too blurry, considering its 1440p resolution.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is now available on PlayStation 5 worldwide. You can learn more about the game in Kai's review.
If there’s one word to describe Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, it would be ambitious. Tetsuya Nomura, Kazushige Nojima, and the rest of Creative Business Unit I at Square-Enix have turned what is merely the remainder of Final Fantasy VII’s Disc One upon leaving Midgar into a 100-hour-long epic. Moments of distracted exploration throughout the massive wide-open environments are often bookended with more linear story segments that balance comedy and somber moments. Players will feel more intimately engrossed with the story of those chosen by the planet and routinely have their fond memories of playing the original tickled with delight.
