Final Fantasy 16 is getting two story DLC content packs, and the first one, titled Echoes of the Fallen, is out right now.
Square Enix and Sony revealed the bonus content as part of The Game Awards 2023, showing off plenty of new gameplay for the add-ons before shadowdropping the first chapter soon after. The second DLC, The Rising Tide, isn’t far off, with the trailer promising a release window of spring 2024.
The video reveals new chapters to play through that take place just before the base game’s final battle. When it comes to Echoes of the Fallen, it looks like Clive and company will be faced with new threats and giant bosses in some of the darkest locations Final Fantasy 16 has to offer. The Rising Tide, meanwhile, livens things up with glowing green fields that still have their own enemies to deal with, such as the Tonberry King and more.
Both of Final Fantasy 16's newly announced add-on packs are paid DLC. However, Square Enix is offering an Expansion Pass that combines everything at a discounted price.
In a PlayStation.Blog post, PlayStation Communications Specialist Clara Hertzog explained that today’s new content adds new battles, weapons, accessories, an increased level cap, and more. The spring DLC, meanwhile, is said to bring new challenges and more, “including the confrontation between Clive and the legendary Eikon, Leviathan.”
Those who purchase Echoes of the Fallen or the all-encompassing Expansion Pass will net Cloud Strife’s iconic Buster Sword. Buyers also gain access to the Away (1987) Orchestral Roll, which can be listened to as background music in the Hideaway.
