2022's been over for a while now, which may lead you wondering which games ultimately sold the most last year. GamesIndustry.biz's Christropher Dring recently posted a full list of the top 20 games sold in the UK last year, including digital sales, and the results are mostly what you'd expect, albeit with a few surprises.

FIFA 23 emerged as the best-selling game on the list, with just above 2.53 million copies sold, with a 61.3% digital share. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 took the second spot, with 1.67 million in sales and a 65.3% digital share. Elden Ring came in third, with sales of 865,262 and a digital share of 76.3%, followed by Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, with sales of 817,299 and a digital share of 52.6%. The stalwart Grand Theft Auto 5 rounded out the top five with 816,081 copies sold, and a digital share of 82.5%.
The other five games in the top 10 include God of War Ragnarok, FIFA 22, Horizon: Forbidden West, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Pokemon Legends: Arceus. The rest of the top 20 mostly speak for themselves, though the inclusion of F1 22 at number 15 is a good reminder of how popular Formula 1 is in the UK, though it was beaten out by Gran Turismo 7, which came in at the 12 spot.
If you're curious how this compares to reported US sales, FIFA 23 came in as the seventh-best-selling game in the US, Modern Warfare came in first, and Elden Ring claimed the second spot.
