Someone recently compressed part of Morbius onto Nintendo's Game Boy Color, though it took a lot of work and several game cartridges. Jared Leto’s recent turn as well-meaning scientist-turned-Living Vampire Michael Morbius was met with scathing critical reviews and extremely poor box office totals when it was released after several COVID-related delays earlier this year, but it also spawned several ironic Morbius memes about how the film is actually a misunderstood superhero masterpiece. This tongue-in-cheek movement behind Morbius has escalated to the point where fans have streamed the movie for free on usually gaming-centric Twitch. Sony would also later release Morbius in theaters a second time last month on account of the memes, but its profits were every bit as dismal as those of the film’s initial run.
Some of the more gaming-related jokes surrounding the movie involve fake covers and mock-ups for a Morbius tie-in title that was ultimately never produced. In keeping with the ironic nature of the Morbius memes, these mock-ups usually center around consoles that have long since been discontinued, such as the Nintendo Wii and 3DS — and many of them simply consist of gameplay footage of the now-infamous movie being played on the system in question. Meanwhile, some players have used Saints Row Factory to recreate Jared Leto’s likeness as Morbius, and others have joked about the anti-hero being included in games like Dead By Daylight.
