One look at the current release schedule will tell you that September, October, and November are looking pretty stacked for new PlayStation games. It's good news, then, that upcoming RPG sequel Fairy Tail 2 has opted for a 13th December launch on PS5 and PS4. It could end up being a fun choice for the holidays.
As previously revealed, Fairy Tail 2 covers the Alvarez Empire Arc from the source material, which basically means that it should be stuffed big important battles. Speaking of which, previous press releases had stated that the game will feature an all-new action combat system — but we're not quite sure if that's an accurate description.
Going by this fresh trailer, combat has definitely been overhauled compared to what was present in the first game, but it looks like you'll still be taking turns — it's just that hitting different buttons seems to let you synchronise your attacks with fellow party members. We'll obviously need to see more in order to properly understand how it works, but it's safe to say that we're intrigued.
It's been four whole years since the first Fairy Tail game, by the way, so we're expecting this sequel to be a decent step forward.

Robert (or Rob if you're lazy) is an assistant editor of Push Square, and has been a fan of PlayStation since the 90s, when Tekken 2 introduced him to the incredible world of video games. He still takes his fighting games seriously, but RPGs are his true passion. The Witcher, Persona, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Trails, Tales — he's played 'em all. A little too much, some might say.
Never bothered with the first because of the turn based combat so looks like I'll be skipping out on this as well
