Players will be able to face off against the legendary Sphinx in Dragon’s Dogma 2, if they can find it.
In a new article published as part of IGN’s ongoing First coverage of Dragon’s Dogma 2, IGN spoke to game director Hideaki Itsuno who shed some light on what players can expect from the Sphinx.
First off, this is the first time the Sphinx has appeared in a Dragon’s Dogma game released in the West, but it’ll be its second appearance in the series overall. The Sphinx made its debut in Dragon’s Dogma Online, though it’s role in Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be different.
Itsuno believes that many players won’t even discover the Sphinx when playing through the game, but for those who do the Sphinx will have many rewards for players to claim.
Behind the Sphinx are five treasure chests that can only be unlocked by solving their riddles. Failing to solve a chest’s riddle on the first attempt will lock players out of its rewards. Though, it’s possible to just fight the Sphinx if one lacks the patience for puzzles. That said, Itsuno promises the Sphinx fight is a bit of a riddle in itself, so it sounds like no matter what players choose, they’re going to have to flex a little bit of brainpower in their encounter with the Sphinx.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 releases on March 22 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
