From then on, adaptations for all different media, including video games, became common, and Ghost in the Shell achieved the status of both a cult classic and a pop culture mainstay.
What is interesting is that there is not just one long-running Ghost in the Shell story. Instead, there are a few different continuities that, while they feel like belonging in the same story, are actually set in slightly different universes.
