Genshin Impact's 2.7 update has finally arrived, bringing with it the new 5-star Hydro character Yelan to rival Childe and Ayato. Yelan wields a bow and is the second bow user attuned with Hydro, after Childe. Yelan excels in the Sub-DPS role and has already drawn comparisons with Xingqiu, a 4-star Hydro character in Genshin Impact considered one of the game's top Sub-DPS characters. Yelan's Hydro elemental mastery makes her versatile, as she can be used to trigger Elemental Reactions with every element except Dendro, dealing devastating damage to opponents.
Yelan is one of two new characters added to Genshin Impact in version 2.7, with the second being Kuki Shinobu, a 4-star Electro user. Both characters had their Genshin Impact character models leaked ahead of their release, after the models were datamined in leaks from the Genshin Impact 2.6 beta test. Shortly after the leaks were shared, HoYoverse officially announced the upcoming release of Yelan and Kuki Shinobu, sharing details about the two new characters alongside their official artwork.

Like fellow Hydro Sub-DPS character Xingqiu, Yelan works best in parties focused on either Vaporize, Electro-Charged, or Frozen Elemental Reactions. This is especially crucial for Yelan as a bow user, as Bows in Genshin Impact are best at applying elemental damage from afar using Charge Attacks. When Yelan performs a Charge Attack, water will pool around the arrowhead and so, when the arrow hits its target, Hydro damage will be dealt. When Yelan applies Hydro using her Elemental Burst in Genshin Impact, it provides a damage buff to the active character in the party.
