The 5.5 character banners have allegedly leaked, and, with them, a glimpse at what developer HoYoverse may prioritize in terms of gameplay mechanics during the patch. Version 5.5 is still a few weeks from arriving as the action RPG has just entered Version 5.4. The current patch is significantly smaller than its predecessor, focused solely on limited-time events and with no inclusion of new Archon Quests since the main Natlan story arc has concluded. Now, the Version 5.5 beta tests are shifting some of the attention toward the upcoming content, such as Varesa’s Ascension materials in .
While the next patch will likely not have new Archon Quests, it is already expected to be much larger than Version 5.4. There are mentions of a new map expansion to Natlan in Version 5.5 (more specifically, the Great Volcano of Tollan), two brand-new playable characters, a new tribe, a new saurian type, and even new Artifact sets to farm for current characters, and, possibly, future units. There are even rumors about a new Natlan map mechanic in 5.5 that should make exploration in the rumored area more challenging, but in what seems like a positive way.
As has already been confirmed by the developer, two new characters will make their debuts as playable characters during Version 5.5. The first of them is Varesa, an Electro character rumored to have a 5-star rating and use a catalyst in battle – which would enable her to deal Electro DMG with her Normal and Charged Attacks. The second new character is Iansan, who has been an important NPC during the Natlan story arc. Confirmed to be an Electro character, Iansan in 5.5 is rumored to be a 4-star character who fights with a polearm in battle.
