Miquella's crosses comprise 's resident collect-a-thon, but the reward for finding them all isn't initially made clear. There are 13 of these monuments scattered across 's map. Many of them are located near important locations the player is almost certain to pass naturally on their journeys: central Sites of Grace, important NPCs, entrances to 's legacy dungeons, et cetera. But a few of them are slightly more out of the way, requiring a little more active searching, or exploration of optional locations and mini-dungeons.
Per lore, Miquella's crosses all mark spots where the demigod abandoned parts of his corporeal body and soul, as he traveled through the Land of Shadow on his journey toward godhood. is the story of the Tarnished and their ersatz allies as they trace Miquella's footsteps, trying to determine where exactly he was going, and what he intended to do once he got there. Those details will have to wait until 's DLC ending, but in the meantime, interacting with each cross reveals just a bit more about Miquella's path.

Unfortunately, there's no ultimate reward for finding all of Miquella's crosses in — the real treasure is the compatriots the Tarnished made along the way. Finding the crosses and tracing Miquella's path is what brings Needle Knight Leda and her allies in the DLC together. It's an important lore conceit, and a central part of the DLC's story, but finding all of them doesn't provide the player with any special weapons, armor, or Talismans in . It's really just a way for to dispense story beats as the player explores, making them feel like they're getting closer to the heart of an intriguing mystery.
It's also not necessary to find Miquella's crosses to progress the many quest linesthat comprise the story of. Throughout the DLC, several NPCs will give the Tarnished Cross Maps with interpretive
