The modding scene can make Bethesda's spacefaring RPG a lot more enjoyable, and it can feel like an especially cool addition on Xbox. Although PC players are used to having mods accessible for plenty of games, it's a much rarer inclusion on console, and Bethesda's dedication to offering console mods for its RPGs has expanded access to the joy of customization. Xbox mod availability is still much more limited than on PC, but it's hard to criticize when it's still head-and-shoulders above just about every other console game on the market.
There's still a big problem with Xbox mods, however, and it has to do with a shortcoming of the Creations platform. Creations makes it possible to access a mix of official Bethesda add-ons and approved community content on Xbox, including a number of paid mods vetted by Bethesda. Having to invest in a mod should provide an experience comparable to purchasing official DLC, but Xbox still treats paid mods as unofficial content in one significant (and annoying) regard.

Installing any community-created mod on Xbox comes with one immediate caveat — achievements will be disabled while playing with mods, tossing out one aspect of progression that a lot of players enjoy. For some, this is completely negligible, and there's no reason not to get creative with mods if achievements are of no interest. For anyone who would like to go for completion, however, even verified paid mods that don't have any significant impact on the balance of the game can completely lock off achievements, requiring a trade-off that just doesn't seem relevant.
mods on PC disable achievements by default as well, but it's easy to get around on that platform, with the script extender or mods specifically designed to re-enable achievements patching up the problem.
