It sounds like it’s going to take you dozens upon dozens of hours to complete Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on PS5, as the game will have many secrets to discover beyond the beaten path. While it sounds like it’ll be possible to mainline the title if you prefer, filling Indy’s notebook may require you to return to previous locations, as you’ll be given ample opportunity to explore.
“It’s a mix between more linear sections and more open-ended, big areas,” MachineGames’ Jens Andersson told IGN in an interview. “In those big areas, you can choose what missions to tackle and there are multiple ways to do that. We have a lot of different options in terms of stealth, hand-to-hand combat, and even gun combat. We tried to give the player agency to determine: what would Indy do here?”
While your approach to each mission will offer ample variety alone, Andersson believes the replayability will come from the sheer scale of the game itself.
“For this game, because it’s so open-ended, we’re thinking about replayability a little bit differently to the Wolfenstein titles,” he said. “We actually allow you to go back and revisit previous areas so you can really explore all of the content there is there and to 100 per cent the game. We have a journal which is a key tool in this title. It starts blank and you gradually fill it out. The idea is that once it’s completely full, that’s when you’ve seen everything the game has to offer.”
Whip-smart
As our gaming tastes have matured, we’ve come to appreciate titles that aren’t necessarily open world but have huge sandboxes to explore. It sounds like that’s exactly what Indiana Jones will offer, and it’s certainly increased our interest in the game. Remember, this title is coming to PS5 next year, in Spring 2025, so you won’t have to wait too long to play it.
